Abstract
1313574 Nickel catalyst regeneration LE NICKEL 30 July 1970 [12 Aug 1969] 36867/70 Heading C7D Spent "Raney" nickel catalyst is dissolved in a mineral acid solution (e.g. HCl or H 2 SO 4 ), Al powder is added to the solution with agitation to cement the Ni therefrom to give a product comprising Ni grains and Al grains coated with Ni which is removed from the solution and melted to form an alloy which is powdered and leached with alkali to give regenerated Ni catalyst. The cementation may be activated by adding HCl or an alkali metal or alkaline earth metal chloride to the solution and the Al powder is preferably added in at least twice the stoichriometric amount. The cementation may be effected at 85-95‹C with a solution pH of 1-3.
