Abstract
1313387 Thermal storage heaters THERMOEAUELEMENT AG 30 July 1970 [31 July 1969] 36850/70 Heading F4U A thermal storage heater utilizes a core material which undergoes liquid/solid phase changes and has different densities in each phase, a heater to melt the core, heat exchange fins to remove the latent heat of crystallization of the material the arrangement being such that the solid portion 10 of the core during heating is continuously urged towards the heater. As shown, the heater which may be electrical or fuid heated is mounted in the base and the upwardly convergent walls 12 and a further heater 3 on a side wall allows liquid melt 16 to pass upwardly and the solid portion 10 is urged towards the heater by gravity when the storage mass is heavier in its molten condition. If the mass is heavier in its solid or crystalline condition, the heater is arranged above the mass and the solid portion thereof is urged towards the heater by its buoyancy on the molten portion.
