Abstract

1313094 Refuse bins T S ROSS JNR 2 April 1970 [4 April 1969 19 March 1970] 15610/70 Heading A4A [Also in Division B8] A waste bin comprises a holder 2 provided with a cardboard container 72, a cover 16 with an opening closed by a plurality of flexible fingers 60 attached to its edges 40, 42, corner-pieces 26 for locating the cover with respect to the holder, and a tubular liner 170 to fit within the container. The cover may also be provided with a short skirt 38. In use the container 72 is filled with waste which may be compacted by a plunger (not shown) which is pushed through the opening in the cover. The cover, which is preferably transparent, is removed and the tapered liner 170 which protected the container during the compacting is withdrawn. The container 72 is then removed and its top folded down. The plastics fingers 60 are molded integrally to form two comb-like sections that slot into the opposite edges of the opening. In alternative embodiments the liner may be provided with ribs to space it from the container or it may be made in two sections Fig. 21 (not shown), an upper funnelled section (252) and a lower section (254) that opens downwards. For increased rigidity, the upper section may be bolted to the rim of the holder.
