Abstract
1312509 Hose COMPOFLEX CO Ltd 6 July 1971 [12 June 1970] 28658/70 Heading F2P A hose comprises an inner helical wire, a one or more layers of fluorinated ethylene-propylene copolymer (F.E.P.) superposed on the wire so as to form the inner wall of the hose, and a further layer or layers of polyethylene terephthalate film and/or fabric, the hose being completed by an outer wire helix of the same pitch as the inner helix but displaced by half the pitch relative thereto. The wires may be of stainless steel or other metal and may be coated with P.T.F.E. or F.E.P. Alternatively the "wire" may be of P.T.F.E. In one embodiment (see the Fig.) an inner stainless steel wire is laid on a mandrel and covered with one or more layers 2 of F.E.P. layflat tubing. A layer 3 of "Terylene" (Reg. Trade mark) fabric is followed by one or more layers 4 of "Terylene" film, a further layer 5 of "Terylene" fabric and an outer helix of stainless or galvanized mild steel. In an alternative construction the F.E.P. layer is followed by one or more layers of fabric and film as above, the film being covered by a "Terylene" layflat tube followed by the outer fabric cover and the outer wire helix. Where more than one layer of "Terylene" film is used the layers of film may be divided into two groups by an intermediate "Terylene" fabric layer. The F.E.P. layer may be formed of layflat tube made by extrusion or by welding from a sheet.
