Abstract

1311628 Web forming CURLATOR CORP 13 Aug 1971 [13 Aug 1970] 38146/71 Heading D1N In a web forming device a fibre conveying duct 11 has upper and/or lower walls 16 which are serrated in longitudinal section, with air jets 17 through their front faces directing air streams forwardly of the duct. Said air streams form air cushions to forward a partially formed web F from a lickerin 10 to a foraminous condensing drum 12 onto whose surface the web is sucked and hence compacted before being doffed onto a conveyor belt 28. Doffing from the lickerin is aided by a tangential air stream from a device 14. Air supplied to the jets 17 is controlled by a damper 27 in a by-pass 26 and may have water injected from an atomizer 30 to prevent static in the web. Air jets in successive serrations are staggered. A fixed shield 23 within the condensing drum 12 allows suction only in the working region 24 of the drum.
