Abstract

1311018 Surgical optical instruments BRITISH CYSTOSCOPE Ltd 16 Dec 1971 [17 Dec 1970] 59965/70 Heading G2J [Also in Division A5] For illuminating organs an endoscopic instrument has an elongate tubular probe 1 with a first annular collar 2 mounted on the probe, a column 3 of light-conducting glass fibres extending from a face 5 of the collar 2 to the distal end of the probe, and a second annular collar 7 having a plurality of light conducting fibres 9 extending from a face 10 thereof to a radially outwardly extending socket at the end of a hollow arm 8 and adapted for light conductive connection to a light source, the second collar 7 being rotatably mounted on the probe with the face 10 held in spaced relationship from the face 5 of the first collar 2 by a sealing ring 11. Light is thus transmitted from a source into the collar 7 where it is turned through 90 degrees and transmitted across the air gap to a crescent shaped bore 6 of the first collar and thence to the distal end of the probe. For viewing the organs an optical system such as a surgical telescope may be inserted within the probe. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 1262214.
