Abstract
1310352 Urea derivatives FISONS Ltd 7 May 1970 [23 May 1969] 26527/69 Heading C2C [Also in Divisions C1 and C3] A foamed urea-aldehyde condensation product formed from urea and an aldehyde containing at least two carbon atoms is claimed. The product is made by reacting the aldehyde with urea and whilst the reaction is being effected, or subsequently, carrying out a foaming operation. The foaming may be effected by the use of a heat-decomposable blowing agent, e.g. a carbonate or benzenesulphonylhydrazide, or by mechanically dispersing air in the reaction mass. The condensate may be derived from urea and acetaldehyde, n- or iso-propionaldehyde, n- or iso-butyraldehyde or crotonaldehyde. The reaction may be carried out in an aqueous medium at pH 3-7 and the foaming may be carried out in the presence of a surfactant, e.g. an alkaryl sulphonate. The foamed product may be treated with formaldehyde and may be comminuted. The foamed condensate may be n-butyraldehyde diurea, glycoluril, isobutylidene diurea, crotonylidene diurea or difurfurylidene triurea.
