Abstract

1310083 Catamenial tampon L S GUYETTE 12 Jan 1972 [18 Feb 1971] 1369/72 Heading A5R A catamenial tampon comprises a body 8 of absorbent material, such as compressed cotton, with a capillary wick 7 protruding from said body and extending into the interior thereof. The wick, which may be porous, non- absorptive and formed from nylon, rayon or glass fibre acts as a transport element to carry menstrual fluids to the interior of the cotton body, whereby a large part of the cotton is utilised in absorbing the fluids. The wick may be stitched to one side of the cotton pad, or may be sandwiched between two layers of cotton to form a pad from which the tampon is formed, for example by rolling to form a body having radially alternate layers of cotton and wick material, or by compressing to the shape shown in Fig. 2.
