Abstract
1308305 Pressure die-casting machines BIRMINGHAM ALUMINIUM CASTING (1903) CO Ltd 9 April 1970 [22 April 1969] 20398/69 Heading B3F A pressure die casting machine includes a pair of dies 10, 14, one die 14 having a shot-chamber 15 and the dies defining a cavity 11, runner 12 and a biscuit-forming chamber 13 of greater cross-section then that of the shot-chamber. Melt 19 is forced by a plunger 17 from the shot chamber into the die cavity. Before the cavity is completely filled with melt, the plunger 17 enters the biscuit-forming chamber. As the melt solidifies in the die cavity 11 pressure is maintained on the plunger 17 to force molten metal into the die cavity from the centre of the biscuit. The pressure is maintained until the melt has solidified in the die cavity. In a further embodiment, the biscuit-forming cavity is formed in both dies and has its widest part at the junction plane of the two dies. In all cases the runner 12 is unrestricted.
