Abstract
1308031 Ignition safety device JUNKERS & CO GmbH 10 April 1970 [11 April 1969] 17039/70 Headings F4F and F4T An ignition safety device for a gas fired appliance having a solenoid safety valve 11 and a main valve 13 for controlling the flow of gas to a burner of the appliance, and a piezoelectric igniter device 14, the safety device comprising a contact breaker 15 which prevents sparking of the igniter device when the valves are not in their "ignition position" where the main valve 13 is closed and the safety valve 11 is open, thus supplying a limited amount of gas to the burner, this being effected by means of a bell crank lever 151 which is pivotably mounted at 155 and which has a contact surface on one arm cooperating with a counter contact surface 152 connected to the igniter device by a high tension cable 144, the other arm of the lever being displaceable against the action of a torsion spring (156, Fig. 3, not shown) on the pivot pin of the lever in a downward direction by depression of the operating handle 116, thus opening the contacts and placing the valves in the "ignition position". Actuation of the igniter device now produces sparks to ignite the gas issuing from the burner, and on returning the operating handle to its normal position as illustrated, the main valve 13 is opened and the lever is returned by the torsion spring to the position shown where it short circuits the ignition device through the torsion spring (156, Fig. 3, not shown) which is electrically connected to the housing of the safety device and acts on earth. The lengths of the arms of the lever are in the ratio of the travel of the operating handle and the required maximum separation of the contacts. Also illustrated is a thermostatic valve 12 which may be adjusted by means of a gear-wheel 121 mounted on the operating handle 16 which meshes with a toothed member 122. Rotation of the handle 116 thus rotates the member 122 which in turn acts upon the bellows 124 of the valve 12 by way of a spindle 123.
