Abstract

1306321 Extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKTRISKA AB 29 April 1971 [30 April 1970] 12077/71 Heading B3P A hydrostatic extrusion press of the type with a die 6 and a movable pressure cylinder 2 and punch 5 has an injection nozzle 42, Fig. 14, which is used to fill the cylinder with hydrostatic fluid through the extrusion outlet after the cylinder has seated against the die holder 24. The fluid is prevented from escaping after filling either by the end of the billet 23 co-operating with the die 6 to act as a valve or by the die 6 co-operating with the die holder in which case the billet and die do not separate, Fig. 13 (not shown). The punch 5 thus does not have to leave the cylinder 2 for filling of the cylinder and the life of the seal 12 is increased. The billet 23 is centred in the cylinder by a billet holder 16 which is slidable in a slot 19 in the cylinder liner 11. The holder 16 has a spring 22 to bias the billet towards the die. The billet and die are loaded between the cylinder 2 and the die 6 by manipulators 26, 27. Alternatively the die and billet are loaded through an opening (40), Fig. 9 (not shown), in the cross-beam 25 of the press frame. The die holder (41a), (41b) is in two parts which are separated to allow insertion of the die. These parts are also held apart by an extension 43, Fig. 14, of the filling nozzle. The extruded product is separated from the discard by a cutting machine (33), Fig. 8 or Fig. 12 (not shown), inside or outside of the press frame.
