Abstract
1373674 Extruding ALLMANNA SVENSKA ELEKRISKA AB 14 March 1972 [15 March 1971] 11734/72 Heading B3P A hydrostatic extrusion press for tubes comprises a mandrel 5, a billet holder 9 slidable along the mandrel, a die 3 and a pressure generating piston 2 which enters a high pressure cylinder 1. The billet 11 is mounted on the mandrel 5 and the cylinder space behind the billet holder is pressurized by the piston 2. The billet holder 9 has a valve 10 which initially prevents hydrostatic fluid reaching the billet so that the pressure exerted behind the holder pushes the billet towards the die 3 to upset the nose of the billet on to the mandrel. As the pressure increases the valve opens and the billet is extruded hydrostatically. The nose of the billet is preshaped so that only a small zone is upset.
