Abstract
1305246 Polyamides INVENTA AG 9 July L970 [9 July 1969] 33445/70 Heading C3R A solid polyamide is made by forming a watercontaining prepolymer (Q) by polymerization in the presence, per mole of monomer, of (0À8- 3À94) x 10<SP>-3</SP> moles chain-stabilizer and (1-4À5) x 10<SP>-4</SP> moles catalyst; (Q) is then heated in solid form in an inert gas, thus causing drying and further condensation. The chain-stabilizer is a mono- or di-carboxylic acid, e.g. acetic, adipic or sebacio acid. The catalyst is an inorganic acid or acid salt, e.g. H 3 PO 4 . The water content of (Q) when formed #0À5% wt. (Q) may be granulated and washed, such granules containing 6% wt. water; it may be heated at 10-70‹ C. below its m.p.; it may be formed continuously. The gas may be hot N 2 . The relative final viscosity of the solid polyamide may be 2À7-5À8. The monomer may be #-caprolactam, hexamethylenediamine adipate, laurolactam, or a lactam having 6-12 ring C-atoms.
