Abstract

1305030 Brake shoes GIRLING Ltd 19 Oct 1970 [21 Nov 1969] 57010/69 Heading F2E A brake shoe has a lining 2 attached to an arcuate carrier 1 comprising a platform member 4 the outer surface of which is concave to present a shallow U-shaped profile 5 into which the lining 2 is keyed there also being provided depressions 6 which do not extend to the centre of the platform 4, the profile 5 and depressions 6 preventing shearing of the lining. When the linings become worn only the upturned edges of the carrier 1 contact the drum so that score marks are not disposed with the friction surface of the drum. It is stated that the arrangement lessens brake squeal.
