Abstract
1304989 Electric motors SOC NATIONALE D'ETUDE ET DE CONSTRUCTION DE MOTEURS D'AVIATION and COMMISSARIAT A L'ENERGIE ATOMIQUE 19 April 1971 [1 April 1970] 25008/71 Heading H2A [Also in Division F1] A turbomolecular vacuum pump comprises a rotor 16 carried by a vertical shaft 39 which rotates about its axis and on which the rotor 94 of an electrical driving motor is keyed and the shaft is supported vertically by a thrust bearing 38 which is placed either above or below the rotor and permits angular displacement of the shaft about the thrust bearing. The shaft is centred by a magnetic bearing 40 which is placed between the pump housing and the shaft and below or above the rotor according to whether the thrust bearing is above or below the rotor. A number of modifications of the thrust bearing 38 are described. The magnetic bearing 40 comprises a rotary plate which is attached to the shaft and which is provided on each of the two radial faces thereof with centring teeth adapted to cooperate with similar teeth carried by two stationary plates which are rigidly fixed to a box secured to the pump housing and provided with magnets. Cooling and lubrication means for the thrust bearing are described. A beater 84 can be provided for damping oscillations.
