Abstract
1302503 Cooling beds MOELLER & NEUMANN GmbH 18 June 1971 [18 July 1970] 28650/71 Heading B3M A residual length 8 of a steel bar is fed along an entry rollway by rollers 10 and is subjected to a preliminary breaking force by raising plates 26 above the level of the rollers so that, after transfer of the bar into a first stationary groove 14 of a cooling bed III by the vertical movement of bottom plates 2, the trailing end of the bar lies at the entry end of the cooling bed, i.e. the left hand end in Fig. 1. Rod from a rolling mill is cut into lengths by rotating shears 6 and guided by deflectors 4 into an entry groove II. Each rod is laterally supported by the raised plates 2 as it is fed along the groove II and only the shorter residual lengths of rod are subjected to the preliminary breaking force. The plates 2 then move below the level of the rollers 10 and then upwardly to transfer the rod to the groove 14. The cooled rod is cut into commercial lengths by cold shears 18.
