Abstract
1302572 Ethers of steroid 21-ols SYNTEX CORP 7 April 1970 [5 May 1969] 16445/70 Heading C2U Steroids of the formula (wherein R is C 1-6 alkyl, monocyclic C 3-8 cycloalkyl or phenyl; each of A and B is H, C 1-6 alkyl optionally halo-, monocyclic C 3-8 cycloalkyl-, monocyclic aryl- or monocyclic heterocyclic-substituted, monocyclic cycloalkyl, monocyclic aryl or monocyclic heterocyclic, or is C 5 or C 6 cycloalkylidene or monocyclic heterocyclic ylidene; each of X and X<SP>1</SP> is H, F or Cl; Y is oxo oxygen, #-OH or #-Cl, and when Y is Cl then X is Cl; and each of Z<SP>1</SP> and Z<SP>2</SP> is a single or double carbon-carbon bond), which are novel when X<SP>1</SP> is not H, are prepared from the free 21-ols, either directly using a halide Rhal in the presence of silver oxide or using a diazoalkane in the presence of BF 3 , or via the 21-mesylates and 21-iodo compounds using ROM where M is an alkali metal. The novel steroids, which possess antiinflammatory and glucocorticoid activity, may be made up into pharmaceutical compositions with suitable carriers.
