Abstract

1302214 Liquefied gas containers CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd 19 April 1971 [19 March 1970] 13247/70 Heading F4P A tank for containing liquids at temperatures greatly different from ambient temperatures comprises primary and secondary membranes 7, 8 which line a housing 6, 16 of load-bearing thermal insulation and which are attached to a rigid outer shell 4 by hardwood frame members 5, 22 forming a rectangular lattice framework. Membranes 7, 8 are provided by inner and outer faces of a plurality of boxes 9 which are welded together and are filled by balsa wood panels 6. Outer surfaces 8 extend beyond the sides 10 of their respective boxes 9 and the extended flanges 11 engage members 5 to locate the boxes in the spaces of the lattice framework. Flanges 11 are welded to T-sectioned connecting members 12 which are attached to members 5, and balsa wood panels 16 fit over, and are connected by clips 18 to, the stems of members 12. Finally T-shaped members 19 have their flanges welded to adjacent ends of boxes 9. Corner boxes 28 are filled with compressed wool to allow them some limited movement due to stresses on the membranes 7 and 8.
