1301368 Cold liquefied gas storage containers CONCH INTERNATIONAL METHANE Ltd 23 Aug 1971 [14 Oct 1970] 48750/70 Addition to 1203496 Heading F4P In a cold liquefied gas, e.g. methane storage tank as claimed in parent Specification 1,203,496 wherein the tank 4 is surrounded by heat insulation material 6 lining the inner face of an outer rigid shell 2, e.g. the hull of a ship, and wherein the lower more highly stressed portion A of the insulation is of load bearing material, e.g. balsa wood panels 8, which extends continuously over the shell bottom and supports the tank 4 which is of prismatic form and of selfsupporting material and wherein the upper less stressed portion B of the insulation comprises rigid foamed plastics material sprayed in situ over the vertical sides of the shell 2, the vertical and the lower horizontal edges of the shell are provided with corner pieces D of load bearing insulation, e.g. balsa wood panels 14, supported by wood strips 13; the junction faces between pieces D and the rigid foam plastics material B being oblique.
