Abstract
1302032 Boots &c SHOE & ALLIED TRADES RESEARCH ASSOCIATION 7 July 1970 [12 April 1969] 18850/69 Heading A3B A method of heat setting a shaped article of poromeric material, e.g. a lasted upper, includes the steps of subjecting the article to dielectric heating followed by cooling while the material is maintained in the desired shape. As described an upper is heat set on a polyethylene last having a conductive coating over its surface which forms a first electrode, the second electrode being formed on a female counterpart of the last. The upper is heated for 5 to 10 seconds with a power intensity of from 0.05 to 0.50 KW per sq. in. to a temperature in the range 120‹ to 170‹C. The upper may be moistened before heating and is subsequently cooled by a fine water spray and/or a forced air stream.
