Abstract

1,186,875. Shoe upper shaping machine. RALPHS UNIFIED Ltd. 21 April, 1967 [12 Nov., 1966], No. 50815/66. Heading A3B. An apparatus for shaping the heel or toe part of a shoe upper comprises a solid heated male die 19, a co-operating female die 12 in the form of a flexible elastomeric band to hold the upper on the male die, and additional heaters to apply heat through the band. The die 10 is rigidly mounted on a post 11 and the band connected at its ends to arms 15 each having a roller 35 which engages in a track 33a, 33b, 34a, 34b.The arms 15 are pivoted on a cross member 17 which is slidable in a guideway 18 by a pneumatic pistoncylinder unit 26. As the cross-member is reciprocated the rollers move along the tracks causing the band to engage around the die 10. The additional heater elements 37 are provided on each arm to heat the upper in conjunction with electrical heaters in the die 10. The male die is heated to 200‹C. to 300‹C. and the band is made of material which will stand temperatures of 200‹C. to 300‹C. The die 10 is suitable for shaping heel parts of uppers and in a modification a die (39), Fig. 4 (not shown), is provided for shaping toe parts of uppers. The dies 10, (39) are preferably metal.
