Abstract

1301425 Knitting-machines H STOLL G STOLL E STOLL E STOLL J STOLL A STOLL R E STOLL and M STOLL 19 April 1971 [9 March 1970] 23250/71 Heading D1C In a flat knitting-machine the needles 12 are controlled by jacks 13, and selector jacks 20 which have associated butts 26 selectively movable out of the lock path by electrical pattern means. The butts are disposed in a staggered arrangement and the pattern means provided in stages accordingly. The jacks are pivoted at 15 to the needles and supported at the other end by a hook 14; and can be flexed so that the operating butt 16 is below the operating cams. To flex the jack the selector 20 is pushed forward so that its pivoted end 18 slides beneath a fixed bar 21. The selector movement is controlled by a bridging member 28 pivoted thereon, having an operating butt 26 and a selection butt 29. Prior positions E-L in their paths where the jack butts 16 can change tracks during movement of the carriage in either direction the butts 26 are depressed by cams 51-56 to present butts 29 to magnets 35 at positions D 2 . If the butts 29 are held thereby the selector 20 remains stationary, and the butt 16 remains engaged in the lock. Non-retained butts allow the other end to spring upwards, placing the butt 26 in the path of an advancing cam 57-63 following the magnet in the direction of carriage movement. The selector is thus advanced to depress the butt 16. The initial positions of the selectors are restored by retracting cams 64-68 acting when required on butts 24. The arrangement of butts 26, 29 are staggered (as shown) so that the magnets and cams are provided in corresponding rows A-C, A'-C'. The electromagnets are permanently energised and the two conditions provided for either by an opposing energisation or no further energisation respectively, or by an opposing or strengthening energisation. Retaining magnets D 1 are provided between the selecting magnets D 2 .
