Abstract

1301100 Laminated paper UNILEVER Ltd 14 April 1970 [18 April 1969] 19836/69 Heading B5N [Also in Divisions B1 D1-D2] Paper or board is treated on or off machine by applying to one or both surfaces an aqueous dispersion comprising a water-soluble lignosulphonate salt and a hydrophobic waxy material. The board may be of fibres recovered from waste paper, and may be faced with paper of higher quality on one or both sides. If it is faced, the treatment may be carried out before or after facing. The ligno-sulphonate salt may be of sodium, calcium, magnesium or aluminium. The waxy material may be paraffin wax, polyethylene or cetyl alcohol. The treatment may be at a sizing press or at calenders, and may be combined with sizing. In the examples: (7) calcium ligno-sulphonate is dissolved in water, and a dispersion of paraffin wax added, this is then applied to one surface of a paperboard made from recovered waste paper, by means of calender water-boxes, and then laminated to a similarly treated board with their treated surfaces not in contact; (9) a paperboard having middles and backs of waste-paper pulp and a lining of unbleached kraft is treated on the unlined surface with an aqueous dispersion of calcium ligno-sulphonate, starch and paraffin wax.
