Abstract

1399868 Transfusion apparatus TRAVENOL LABORATORIES Ltd 18 Oct 1972 [8 Oct 1971] 46844/71 Heading A5R A penetrating device for connecting a tube to a sealed container comprises a plastics moulding which defines a tube receiving part 13 having a tapered section 13a for facilitating entry into the tube and an insert receiving part 14 which is reduced in diameter thus providing the shoulder 15. A metal insert 12 is fitted into the insert receiving part 14 and has an ovoid shaped cutting edge 21 at the extreme edge of the insert. The bore of the insert receiving part 14 is rebated and the insert 12 fitted into the rebate such that internal surfaces of the insert 12 and the adjacent part 14 are contiguous. A flange 16 is formed on the tube receiving part, the outer edge having ribs 19 to assist gripping of the flange when holding the device in use.
