Abstract
1399390 Hydrocracking; reforming UNIVERSAL OIL PRODUCTS CO 27 Oct 1972 [29 Oct 1971] 49634/72 Heading C5E [Also in Division B1] In a hydrocarbon conversion process wherein catalyst is periodically removed from the reaction zone for regenration, the catalyst is purged prior to regeneration to remove volatile materials, e.g. hydrocarbons such as naphtha or hydrogen, by (i) passing into a purging zone at a predetermined lower pressure, e.g. atmospheric, (ii) contacting with a gaseous medium e.g. nitrogen or an inert gas which is passed into the purging zone whilst venting gaseous medium and volatile materials and such a rate as to increase the pressure in the zone to a predetermined higher pressure, e.g. 12-15 p.s.i.g., and (iii) at the higher pressure, stopping inflow of gaseous medium whilst continuing to vent the gaseous medium and purged volatile material to return the pressure to the lower value. The sequence may be repeated 1 to 6 times. The treatment of a platinum, rhenium, halogen or alumina catalyst is described. Specified conversion processes are reforming, hydrocracking, hydrogenation, dehydrogenation, dealkylation and desulphurization. The exemplified process is reforming at 700-1100‹ F., 50-1000 p.s.i.g., a LHSV of 0À2-10 and a hydrogen to hydrocarbon mole ratio of 1 : 1 to 10 : 1.
