Abstract

1399100 Purification of dyes IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES Ltd 4 Dec 1972 [7 Dec 1971] 56743/71 Heading C4P Water-soluble dyes are isolated from pastes containing the dye and an aqueous solution of an inorganic salt, by displacing the aqueous solution from the paste by washing with a watermiscible organic solvent, slurrying the mixture of dye and solvent with water, removing solvent by steam distillation and recovering the dye by spray drying the resultant solution or suspension. Pure dyes containing a reduced salt content are obtained. In examples the purification of monoazo food dyes using propanols as solvents is described.
