Abstract

1399007 Explosive materials WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC CORP 17 May 1972 [17 May 1971] 16395/72 Heading C1D [Also in Divisions C4 and G1] For identification, at least one inorganic phosphor material is incorporated in an explosive material, the phosphor emission being correlated with data such as explosive type, date of manufacture etc. Broad band " spotting " phosphors such as used in fluorescent lamps may be mixed as conglomerates including inorganic binder with different line emitting or absorbing " cooling " materials (Fig. 2, not shown) which may be phosphors or materials identifiable by atomic absorption spectroscopy, X-ray fluorescence analysis or neutron activation analysis (see Division C4). Alternatively, finely divided material may be scattered through the explosive but would be difficult to locate. Explosive materials are disclosed and may be high velocity explosives, blasting agents, or detonators; dynamite and ammonium nitrate are referred to. Phosphor emissions may be infra-red, visible or U.V., particle sizes and mixture concentrations being given. Prior art uses of organic phosphors with explosives are discussed.
