Abstract
1399055 Cryogenic line COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'ELECTRICITE 26 March 1973 [31 March 1972] 14494/73 Headings H1A and A4D In a cryogenic line, the spaces 4 between inner phase and outer neutral conductors 2, 3 communicate through apertures 9 with the outer enclosure 6, so that they can be evacuated continuously through a tube 16. Helium flows through the inner conductors 2 and back through the inner enclosure 5. The apertures 9 are provided in tubes 110, 112, (111) in welded assemblies 100 provided at 100 m. intervals along the line. The middle portions of the tubes 110, 112, (111) are of Al or Cu. Their ends 14, 15, the flow tubes 101 and the plates 119, 120 are of a Fe/Ni alloy such as INVAR (Registered Trade Mark). The outer conductors 3 are of Cu, corrugated except in the regions of the assemblies 100, and covered with layers of Nb and PTFE. A thermal radiation screen may be provided.
