Abstract

1398343 Bottle pour-out fitments and closure members OWENS-ILLINOIS Inc 30 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 4593/73 Headings B8V and B8T A bottle pour-out fitment comprises a disc element 12 having a central opening and a bottle neck engaging member 14, a pouring tube 18 integral with the disc, said pouring tube being flared outwardly at one extremity and terminating in a flange 22 at the other extremity, and a vent tube 24 coaxially located within, and integrally connected to, the pouring tube by a plurality of ribs 26 (see also Fig. 3, not reproduced) thereby defining a plurality of liquid outlet openings. In the embodiment shown the fitment is retained on bottle neck 44 by a bead 15 engaging groove 46 and the bottle is closed by a screwed on closure 30. A bead 42 and ring 38 depend from top panel 32 of the closure and define a groove therebetween which receives the upper flared portion of the pouring tube. On screwing down of the closure the tapered outer surface of bead 42 urges the edge 20 of the pouring tube against the ring 38. In another embodiment of closure (Figs. 5 to 7, not shown) the sealing groove is defined between a bead (66) and an annular wall (56) extending between parallel spaced portions (52), (54) of the top panel of the closure.
