Abstract

1398137 Pedestal desks; drawer cabinets RONEO VICKERS Ltd 12 Oct 1972 47181/72 Headings A4B and A4H A pedestal desk has a desk top (1) and two pedestals (6, 7) hanging therefrom, each pedestal comprising a skeletal structure formed of rectangular front and rear frames 14, 15 held spaced apart by drawer runners 16-19, and rectangular side panels 20, 21 attached to the frames 14, 15. The frames 14, 15, runners 16-19 and panels 20, 21 are fabricated from sheet metal, turned in flanges of the frames being spot welded at 24. Each end of each runner has a tongue 32 and a depression 33 that co-operates with a respective slot 34 in the frame side. Slots 35 and holes 37 in the frames and knock-out recesses 40 in panels 20, 21 accommodate a locking mechanism. Side flanges 38 of the panels 20, 21 embrace the frame edges see Fig. 6 (not shown). The frames 14, 15 are secured to the top (1) by clips (42), Fig. 7 (not shown), passed through slots 41 in the frames 14, 15 and in parts (43, 44) of the top (1), and wedges (45) driven into the clips (42). A rear modesty panel (13), Fig.6 (not shown) has flanges secured by screws (46) to legs (3), frames (15) and the top. The upper runners 16, 17 have nylon glides 25 and the lower runners 18, 19 have rollers 27 and nylon stops 31. The upper and lower drawers (8, 9), Fig. 3 (not shown) respectively have nylon glides (48) fitted to slides (47) and rollers (51) or slides (50). Each side of the upper drawer, including its slide and corresponding internal groove, is formed from one piece of sheet metal.
