Abstract

1397776 Hinges with door stops PAUMELLERIE ELECTRIQUE 8 Aug 1972 [15 Feb 1972] 36947/72 Heading E2F A hinge having a door-opening detent, and suitable for use in motor vehicles, comprises first and second hinge parts 1 and 2, and a door-opening detent disposed in a space between two pairs of knuckles 6, 7 and 3, 4 thereof, the door-opening detent comprising two coaxial annular cams 16, 19 respectively fixed in the rotational sense to the hinge parts 1, 2 so as to rotate with respect to each other when the hinge undergoes an opening or closing movement, and being provided with cooperating teeth 23, (31), Figure 2 (not shown), to retain the hinge in the open position, the cams being capable of moving axially apart upon the application of a torque to the hinge, in opposition to a resilient compression device 15 by the interaction of the teeth, with the cam 16 being slidably guided along an edge portion 18 of the hinge part 1. In order that a greater torque will be necessary to close the door than to open it, one flank (26) of each tooth is steeper than the other (24). An intermediate retaining position (not shown) between the fully-open and closed positions may be provided, and the resilient compression device 15 may take the form of spring washers 14, a compression spring, or an elastomeric block.
