Abstract
1396458 Explosive compositions ICI AUSTRALIA Ltd 28 June 1973 [12 July 1972] 30755/73 Heading C1D A slurry explosive includes an oxygen-releasing salt, water, a fuel, and a detonation sensitizing material comprising aluminium or aluminium alloy powder combined at its surface with from 0À01 to 0À2% by weight of a naturallyoccurring resin acid, or a derivative thereof. The sensitizing material is hydrophobic and retains its effectiveness after storage and exposure to water. In examples, finely divided or coarse atomized aluminium powder is reacted with an aqueous solution of sodium abietate or with a sodium hydroxide solution of hydrogenated rosin and added to compositions containing ammonium nitrate, sodium nitrate, water, coarse A1 powder, sugar, gilsonite, sulphur, guar gum, and thiourea. Other ingredients referred to are inorganic chlorates and perchlorates, TNT, RDX, HMX, tetryl, PETN, nitrocellulose, nitrostarch, urea, alcohols, glycols, glues, silicon, ferrosilicon, ferrophosphorus, titanium, boron, charcoal, asphalt, sawdust, flours, dextrins, starches, zinc chromate, ethyl hexanol, biopolymeric thickening agent, and dispersed air or gas. A list is given of other suitable resin acids, in addition to abietic acid. Specification 1,386,203 is referred to.
