Abstract

1396030 Poly-unsaturated acetals BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 8 Dec 1972 [9 Dec 1971] 56639/72 Headings C2C and C2P The invention comprises a mixture of compounds (Ia) and (Ib), where R<SP>1</SP> and R<SP>2</SP> are C 1-8 aliphatic hydrocarbyl radical, or are joined to form a C 2-8 alkylene, a C 5-6 1,2-cycloalkylene or a 1,2-phenylene radical and n is 0, 1 or 2, their preparation by reacting a mixture of isomeric phosphonium salts (IIIa) and (IIIb) with an equimolar quantity of strong base in an inert organic solvent and adding an acetal (II) to the resulting triphenylphosphinylene and their hydrolysis to give mixtures of the aldehydes, e.g. α- and #-sinesal. A mixture of 4-methylene-5-hexen-1-yltriphenylphosphonium iodide and 4-methyl-3,5- hexadien - 1 - yltriphenylphosphonium iodide is made by reacting 1-chloropentan-4-one with vinylmagnesium chloride, dehydrating the resulting 1 - chloro - 4 - methylhex - 5 - en - 4 - ol, reacting the formed mixture of chlorodienes with NaI and reacting the resulting iodo compound with triphenylphosphine. A mixture of 4- methyl-8-methylenedeca-4,9-dien-1-yl and 4,8- dimethyldeca - 4,7,9 - trien - 1 - yltriphenylphosphonium iodides are made similarly. 1 - Chloro - 4 - methylnona - 4 - en - 8 - one is made by reacting 1-chloro-4-methylhex-5-en-4- ol with diketene and heating to decarboxylate the resulting acetoacetate.
