Abstract

1294727 Acetoacetic acid esters BADISCHE ANILIN- & SODA-FABRIK AG 11 March 1970 [12 March 1969] 11627/70 Heading C2C Acetoacetic acid esters are prepared by reacting diketene with an aliphatic or cycloaliphatic alcohol in a ratio of more than 2.8 moles of alcohol per mole of diketene in the presence of a catalyst at less than 120‹ C. in a reactor with more than four stages in series. A plate column or cascade reactor may be used as the reactor and the catalyst may be a combination of sodium acetate and acetic acid. Other catalysts may be tert-amines, inorganic acids, Friedel- Crafts catalysts, acetyl chloride, and cyclic ethers, e.g. 2,6-dimethylpyrone-(4) and their salts.
