Abstract
1395668 Unwinding apparatus H BUDDECKE 1 Nov 1973 [2 Nov 1972] 50891/73 Heading D1J The invention relates to a filament 16 that has previously been helically wound around four spaced apart carrier tapes or filaments 14 to form coaxial turns 12 on said filaments, and in which said turns 12 are then flattened and wound up, together with the tapes or filaments 14 therein, to form a bobbin 10. According to the invention, when the bobbin 10 is unwound the cross-section of the turns 12 is spread so that opposite parts of the turns do not touch. As the turns are unwound from the bobbin 10 the filaments 14 are spread apart to lead the turns 12 onto four endless belts 18, 20, 22, 24, Fig. 4. The endless belts are mounted on pulley wheels 18', 20', 22', 24' carried by a stationary frame 34. In the frame 34 in a drive shaft 32 that transmits power to the shafts on which the pulley wheels 18', 20', 22' and 24' are mounted. The shaft 32 receives its power from sprocket wheels 38, 40 driven by chain drives 38", 40" derive their power from chain drives 50, 52 mounted outside the spread apart turns 12, the chains 38", 40" being coupled to the chains 50", 52" by means of connecting pins 44 extending between adjacent turns 12. The pins 44 are carried by the chains 50", 52" and as they approach the end of the upper run of the chains 50", 52" they retract into their support sleeves 42 until such time as they are again at the commencement of said upper run. To prevent the frame 34 from being driven in the longitudinal direction by the chains 38" and 40" or 50" and 52", the frame 34 is retained by rollers 66 and 68, Fig. 2, mounted on the frame 34 and co-operating with rollers 70 mounted in a fixed frame 54. The outside dimension of the pair of rollers 66 and 68 is greater than the gap between the rollers 70. The pins 44 are operated by control rods 46 along which move rollers carried by the pins 44. A draw-off ring 102 is mounted at the exit end of the machine. In a modified embodiment, Fig. 5, (not shown) the pins 44 are carried by the chains mounted outside the spread apart turns 12, these pins being directed between the turns so as to extend into sleeves (48') carried by the chains 38" within the turns 12. In both embodiments the carrier filaments 14 are wound up on bobbins 98, Fig. 2, connected to the chain drives 38' and 40', preferably by way of slipping clutches to keep the filaments 14 under tension. The apparatus ensures that as the filamentary material is unwound from the package 10 the turns 12 are opened out for treatment such as washing, shrinkng, drying and steaming.
