Abstract
1395525 Perforating tools SCHAFFHAUSER STRICKMASCHINENFABRIK 9 June 1972 [21 June 1971] 27097/72 Heading B4B A method of making holes in a foil 2 secured on a perforated substrate 1 so that the holes to be made in the foil exactly register with the holes in the substrate, hwerein the foil is cut with a cutting tool having two distinct cutting portions, the first portion 10, during an initial movement of the tool cutting along a part of the edge of the hole in the substrate and the second cutting portion 8, 9 after continued movement of the tool, separating the foil at the remaining part of the hole perimeter. The cutting tool comprises a shaft part 5 having a cross-sectional shape corresponding in size to the holes formed in the substrate, e.g. rectangular as shown, and provided with a hand grip; a stop collar 6 is secured to the shaft. A wedge-shaped cutting bar 10 is formed on the operative end of the tool so as to form cutting edges 8, 9 the edges 8, 9 being inclined as shown in Fig. 4. In operation, the pointed end 12 of the wedge is inserted into the foil so as to first cut along a line 14, Fig. 1. Continued downward pressure then causes the tool to turn, thereby cutting along edge portions 15 until the shaft part 5 is aligned with the hole in the substrate. Further pressure then causes the cutting edges 8, 9 to sever the remaining peripheral edges of the foil.
