Abstract

1395364 Rolling WILHELM HEGENSCHEIDT GmbH 12 Oct 1972 [13 Oct 1971] 47133/72 Heading B3M A smoothing head for a cylindrical workpiece 1 comprises a cage 20 for a set of rollers 2 and the axes of the rollers are inclined to the workpiece axis 15 so as to produce an axial force during rolling which acts against the workpiece advancing force. The workpiece is preferably not allowed to rotate and the rollers engage the inner surface of a rotatable conical sleeve 4 driven by a belt 18. The cage is spring-biased 3 towards the wider end of the sleeve and moved into the tapered bore of the sleeve by a non- rotatable pressure ring 5. The ring 5 is connected by bolts 12 to a ring 11 which is moved rightwards against spring-bias 10 by hydraulic piston cylinder units 7, 8 formed in a fixed part 6 of the head. The rollers are released from the workpiece by oppositely acting hydraulic pistoncylinder units (16), Fig. 3 (not shown).
