Abstract

1394893 Paper polypropylene laminate SUMITOMO ELECTRIC INDUSTRIES Ltd and TOMOEGAWA PAPER MFG CO Ltd 23 June 1972 [23 June 1971 8 July 1971] 29687/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division H1] An electrically insulating paper/polypropylene laminate comprises an integrated assembly of an electrically insulating paper and a biaxially orientated polypropylene film, which are bonded together by an adhesive which has been formed by melt-extruding polypropylene or a propylene copolymer containing a major proportion of propylene units, the thickness of the adhesive being less than the thickness of the electrically insulating paper and less than the thickness of the biaxially orientated polypropylene film. In a preferred embodiment, a layer of paper is bonded to each surface of the film. The paper may be formed of polypropylene fibres. The comonomer may be ethylene. The laminate which may be impregnated with an electrically insulating oil may be used as insulation for an electric cable.
