Abstract

1394194 Hot gas engines PHILIPS GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN NV 25 Aug 1972 [28 Aug 1971] 39731/72 Heading F1S A hot gas engine utilizes a number of coolerregenerator units each comprising a housing 14 in which a regenerator 15, a cooler 16 and a flow guide 17 are arranged in series, with the cooler interposed between the regenerator and the flow guide, the latter comprising a duct 30 which communicates at one end with the cooler and at the other end via an opening in a side wall of the housing with a compression space of the engine (not shown). The housing 14 communicates at the regenerator end with the heater (not shown). The regenerator 15, the cooler 16 and the flow guide 17 are connected together by soldered joints. An O-ring seal 26 is provided between the cooler and the housing and is accommodated in a groove 25 in the cooler which groove is bounded on its side nearer the flow guide by an annular surface 27 on the cooler which coaxially abuts an annular surface 28 on the housing and an O- ring seal 40 is provided between the flow guide 17 and the side wall of the housing at the area surrounding the opening in this wall. A thrust member 33 is provided which is slidable in the housing in the direction of the axis of the annular surfaces and which engages the flow guide on the side thereof remote from the cooler with a surface 32 which is inclined to the axis so that by the application of an axial pressure to the thrust member a force is transmitted to the flow guide to press the guide against the side wall of the housing at the area surrounding the opening in this wall and also to press the annular surface 27 of the cooler against the annular surface 28 of the housing, means 35 being provided which has screw threaded engagement with the housing whereby the axial pressure can be applied to the thrust member. United States Specification 3166911 is referred to.
