1394185 Laminates ALUMINIUM CO OF AMERICA 6 Sept 1972 [10 Sept 1971] 41396/72 Heading B5N [Also in Division H1] An electrical conductor dielectric laminate comprises an elongated electrically conductive strip 16 and a dielectric web 2 bonded to the electrically conductive strip at points inwardly from the longitudinal edges thereof, the dielectric web having between the bonds and the longitudinal edges non-planar portions whereby under compression of the laminate the dielectric web expands in width to a greater width than that of the conductive strip. The electrically conductive strip may be of copper or aluminium. The dielectric web may be of corrugated construction and may consist of paper, e.g. impregnated kraft paper, polyethylene, a polyester, a vinyl homo- or copolymer, e.g. polyvinyl chloride or a polycarbonate. The two components of the laminate may be bonded by an adhesive, e.g. an epoxy resin, a polyurethane, a vinyl resin, a polyamide, paraffin wax, microcrystalline wax, natural wax, asphalt, casein, neoprene, a styrene-butadiene rubber or polyvinyl acetate. In the embodiment shown, a laminate is made by bonding two sheets by adhesive sections 18 and cut into strips. The laminate of the invention may be used in the formation of an electric coil, a compressive force being applied during winding to cause the dielectric web to extend beyond the longitudinal edges of the conductive strip.
