1394024 Recovery of vanadium values TSENTRALNY NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT CHERNOI METALLURGII IMENI I P BARDINA and NAUCHNO - ISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT METALLURGII 13 Feb 1973 6967/73 Heading C1A Vanadium values are recovered from a vanadium containing material, e.g. ores, concentrates and slags, by roasting in the presence of oxygen with an oxide of an alkaline earth metal, for example in a rotary furnace at above 750 C. and then leaching the roasted material either with (a) a solution of a mineral acid at a temperature not exceeding 70 C. while maintaining the pH of the solution at 2À5-3À2 or (b) an alkaline metal carbonate solution to give a solution of alkali metal vanadate which may be treated with an ammonium compound (e.g. NH 4 OH) and CO 2 to form ammonium vanadate.
