Abstract

1393686 Automatic voltage regulation STANDARD TELEPHONES & CABLES Ltd 20 July 1972 34017/72 Heading G3X Tap-setting relays for a suoply transformer are cycled sequentially through all possible settings until a voltage derived from the transformer input lies within a pre-set range. As shown, main transformer 1 has tap contacts 2a-2c controlled by relays 2A-2C. In use, the input voltage is applied through an auxiliary transformer 3 to a rectifier 4 producing stabilized reference voltages V 1 V 2 in a circuit 7 to define a desired voltage range. The transformer 3 also supplies a circuit 5 which produces a D.C. voltage proportional to the peak to peak voltage of the A.C. supply, and a clock pulse generator 6 which drives a counter 11. Output signals from the counter drive the relays 2A-2C and simultaneously adjust the ratio of a potential divider 10. When the voltage taken from the divider lies within the desired range defined by voltages V 1 , V 2 , the counter outputs are inhibited so that the contacts 2a-2c are set to produce a desired output from transformer 1. If the input voltage should vary so that the voltage from divider 10 moves out of the desired range, the counter 11 causes the relays to operate in sequence until an appropiate setting is again reached.
