Abstract
1392380 Acrylamide; methacrylamide MITSUI TOATSU CHEMICALS Inc 17 Aug 1972 [26 Aug 1971] 38482/72 Heading C2C In the production of acrylamide or methacrylamide by reacting acrylonitrile or methacrylontrile with water in the presence of a free metallic copper catalyst, an inert gas containing less than 2 vol. per cent of oxygen is contacted first with the feed nitrite and then with the feed water. Preferably the feed nitrile is mixed with water prior to contact with the inert gas, and as exemplified this water is feed water after having itself been contacted with the inert gas. Suitable inert gases are hydrogen, nitrogen, carbon dioxide or their mixtures.
