1391709 Cigarette delivery control system HAUNI-WERKE KORBER & CO KG 28 April 1972 [29 April 1971 11 Dec 1971] 19886/72 Heading A2C [Also in Division G3] A combination comprising a cigarette rod machine, and a filter attachment machine, is controlled during starting and stopping by a programme control device synchronously or asychronously coupled to the machines drive. In the cigarette rod making machine, Fig. la, tobacco passes from a distributor 1 to a tobacco duct 2 by a belt 3. The tobacco rod being formed is moved by a wheel 7 beneath a device 8 for removing surplus tobacco and transferred to a conveyor 13. The tobacco rod is fed into a forming device 14 and combined with a paper 17 from a reel 16. A device 4 gums the ream which is closed by the device 14 and dried by a heating device 6. The cigarette rod is fed to the tubes 19 of a device 21 which cuts it into cigarette lengths which are transferred by a drum 26 to a filter attachment machine. In the filter attachment machine, Fig. 1b six-fold filter rods F from a magazine 35 are fed to a drum 36 and separated by cutters 34 into double length filter plugs which are spaced on a rearranging drum 37 and delivered in staggered rows to a shifter drum 37 and delivered in single file to a magazine drum 39. An accelerator drum 40 lays the double filters between cigarettes on an assembly drum 28 from which they are transferred by a drum 29. On the drum 29 gummed tipping papers, prepared from a strip 41a by a gumming device associated with a cutter roll 44, are attached to the filter plugs on the drum 29. The double cigarettes are finally rolled by a drum 48 and checked by a device associated with a drum 49. The double cigarettes are cut by a drum 50 and transferred to a takeoff belt 56 feeding a tray-filling machine, not shown. Those elements of the machine which are in operation throughout the production cycle are permanently synchronised to the drive mechanism of the machine. Other elements which are brought into operation before or during the starting of the machines or closedown during or after the stopping of the machines are controlled by a conditional logic circuit responsive to the actuation of switches by a programme cylinder synchronised to the machines through an electromagnetic clutch or driven asynchronously in response to signals from a counter responsive to a clock pulse generator. It is stated that the programme cylinder can be replaced by magnetic tapes perforated cards or trace carriers which are scanned photo-electrically.
