Abstract

1390993 Braiding machines B & F CARTER & CO Ltd 20 Sept 1973 [20 Sept 1972] 43562/72 Heading D1C A braiding machine comprises a central disc 1 having outwardly projecting lobes, and a surrounding annulus 5 having inwardly projecting lobes intercolated with the inner lobes to leave a small gap 10 between them. Each lobe carries a short section of a circular track 12 on which slide carriers 38 of an outer set of bobbins 37. Yarn from an inner set of bobbins 21 guided by a tube 11 passes through the gap 10 between the lobes. A guide tube is pivoted on each inner bobbin and is rocked by a cam track 15 operating on a follower 34 carried on each guide (Fig. 2). The inner set of bobbins is carried by a ring 22 which is rotated via gears 25 and 26. Each carrier 38 of the outer set of bobbins (Fig. 4) is pulled along the track by a pair of fingers 53, 54 carried on a pair of synchronously moving rings. The fingers engage the carrier alternatively, each moving aside in turn to leave a clear passage for the guides 11 protruding from the gap 10 and which move in the opposite direction. Cam followers 57, 58 on the fingers fit in cam tracks 13, 14 on the disc and annulus respectively.
