Abstract
1390960 Developing silver halide emulsions KONISHIROKU PHOTO INDUSTRY CO Ltd 11 May 1972 [12 May 1971] 22204/72 Heading G2C A process for obtaining a high contrast image comprises developing, after imagewise exposure to light, a silver halide photographic material having a silver chloride content of less than 30 mole % in the silver halide layer, in an alkaline developer containing hydroquinone as the sole developing agent, a formaldehyde bisulphite and a thiocyanate compound capable of liberating thiocyanate ions and not more than 0.004 mole of KBr per litre of developer. The thiocyanate compound is preferably a thiocyanate of K, Na, Ca, Mg, Ni, Cr or ammonium and is added in an amount of not more than 0.2 mole/litre. The developer solution may also contain sulphite ions.
