1390071 Gas lighter MANSEI KOGYO KK 8 March 1972 [16 March 1971 18 March 1971] 10757/72 Heading F4F A gas lighter comprises an ignition device and a valve operating device secured together in a casing 2, Fig. 1, to a base plate 5 on a fuel tank 4 by a screw 6, Fig. 4, the ignition device including a body (7), Fig. 3 (not shown) supporting a rotor 20 for rotating a knurled wheel 17 against which a flint 26 is urged by a flint pusher (30), and the valve operating device including a valve operating member 40 pivotally connected to the cap 1. A supporting member (23) of low friction synthetic resin supports the rotor 20. The body (7) has a base 12 through which the screw 6 extends to secure the ignition device to the base plate 5. The body (7) has a portion 14 extending transversely to support the knurled wheel 17, and side walls (8), 9 defining a flint passage with an open top into which the flint 26 may be inserted. The flint pusher (30) is pivotally supported by the side walls (8), 9 on a pin 31 resting in cut-out portions 32 (33) of relatively different dimensions to allow lateral movement of the flint pusher (30) into an operative position or an inoperative position in which it is biased against the flint 26 by a spring 34. The valve operating device is arranged to pivot on movement of the cap 1 and is slidably carried on the screw 6. The burner comprises a nozzle 54 mounted for reciprocating movement for controlling the burner valve and carrying members 53 mounted in grooves 54a, 61 in the nozzle 54 and urged apart by a spring 59. The upper member 53 is normally engaged by arms 46 of the member 40. When the gap 1 is opened the upper member 53 is urged by the spring 59 to move the burner nozzle 54 upwardly and open the burner valve.
