Abstract

1389740 Vehicle drives LINDE AG 2 June 1972 [2 June 1971] 25808/72 Heading B7H A vehicle drive wheel comprises a driven central sun wheel 16 and a plurality of planet wheels 13 freely pivoted on a carriage member 15 attached to the vehicle wheel, the planet wheels, engaging an outer gear rim 9, rotatable about a housing member 6 which carries the vehicle wheel and secured to the vehicle frame, wherein clutch couplings are provided between the member 15 and the sun wheel shaft 17, and between the outer gear rim 9 and the housing member 6. The clutch couplings comprise free wheel 19 and free wheels 10, 11 which act in opposite directions the engagement and disengagement of which are carried out by hydraulic pistons 20, 21 according to the oil pressure from a hydraulic drive. The drive may alternatively be provided by an electric motor and means may be provided wherein a change of gear ratio is effected automatically in dependance upon the working pressure in the case of a hydraulic motor or upon the current consumption in the case of an electric motor.
