Abstract

1389324 Pressurized dispensing containers J F GORMAN 5 April 1972 [5 April 1971] 15608/72 Heading F1R A dispenser e.g. for inhalation purposes comprises a container 12, Fig.3, mounted in a two part housing 11, the upper part 11b of which is movable from the position shown in Fig. 1 to that in Fig.3 in which it acts as a shield for the dispensed medicament. As shown, the container valve stem 15 is surmounted by an actuator 17 which at each end has a pivot 24 which engages a groove 25. Each groove 25 extends substantially the length of the part 11b. The actuator 17 also has a cam surface 29 which co-operates with a groove 31. In use, the part 11b is raised until the pivots 24 contact the end of the grooves 25 after which the part 11b is pivoted, guided by the cam surface 29 and groove 31, to the dispensing position of Fig.3. A notch 28 receives the stem 15 during the pivotal movement and the part 11b is retained in its horizontal position by engagement with an edge 27 projecting from the actuator 17. Assistance is only provided by the cam 29 which slightly deflects the adjacent wall portion to frictionally hold the part 11b. In a modification, Figs.6, 7 (not shown), the part 11b is prevented in the dispensing mode from being moved sideways, by a yoke (36) having two leg portions (38) one on each side of the valve stem 15, and a depending sleeve (37) which surrounds the top of the container 12. The stem 15 is secured to the yoke (36) by a U-shaped spring clip (41).
