Abstract
1387232 Friction material BENDIX CORP 11 Jan 1973 [31 Jan 1972] 1498/73 Heading C3R A friction composition for an automobile brake lining comprises 5-55% V. of metal and/or metal oxide particles of which at least 5% V. are preferably in fibre form, 10-75% V. of carbon particles in non-graphite form, 10-35% V. of a thermosetting phenolic resin binder and optionally up to 10% V. of an elastomer modifier, based on the total volume of the composition. Preferred metals and metal oxide are iron, copper, steel, iron oxide and mixtures thereof. Other optional modifiers include graphite and inorganic wear filler. In the example a brake lining is made from a composition comprising carbon 45% V., powdered iron 25% V., steel fibre 10% V. and phenolic resin 20% V.
